Call to Order
The meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m. by first vice-chair, Gerri Hall.
Pledge of Allegiance and Moment of Silence
The pledge was led by Ms. Hall. .
Ms. Hall asked for a moment of silence for our military personnel and other good Democrats.
Approval of Minutes
The Minutes for the January meeting were presented. Motion was made and seconded to accept the minutes from the January meeting. The motion carried.
Treasurer’s Report
Mr. Wasserman presented the Treasurer’s report. There were no questions. Ms. Kommareddi requested that expenses be itemized in the next report for ease of review.
Thereafter, a motion was made and seconded to accept the Treasurer’s Report. The motion carried.
Vice-Chair’s Report
Ms. Hall reviewed an upcoming calendar of important Democratic Party dates. The dates are listed as follows:
March 10 – Michigan Democratic Party Endorsement Convention in Detroit
April 28 – Michigan Democratic Party Jeff-Jack Dinner
May 5 – Statewide Democratic Caucus
May 15 – Candidate Filing Deadline (Precinct Delegate Filing Deadline, too)
June 2 – Congressional District Convention – Elect Delegates for National Convention
August 7 – Primary Election
August 18 – District and County Convention
Week of Sept. 3 – National Democratic Party Convention – North Carolina
September 7-9 - Michigan Democratic Party Convention
November 6 – General Election
Elected Officials were given a chance to provide an updates on legislative actions.
Good & Welfare
Ms. Kommareddi announced the first Women for Obama in Genesee County meeting will be held at her home on March 25, 2012 at 3:00 p.m.
Pam Farris announced her upcoming fundraiser.
Doug Norton discussed Citizens Against Government Overreach’s recent efforts.
Tim Sneller announced Rep. Smiley’s upcoming campaign kick-off and fundraiser on March 21.
It was then moved and seconded to suspend regular business.
Mark Bernstein for U-M Regent
Mr. Bernstein addressed the Party regarding his efforts to be nominated by the Democratic Party as a candidate for U-M Regent. He provided his background and qualifications and answered questions regarding the cost and affordability of college.
Poll Challenger Training
Mr. Brewer, chair of the Michigan Democratic Party provided a handout and lead a discussion about the duties, responsibilities and importance of poll challengers, in light of the upcoming election, especially related to the 51st House District special election.
Mr. Brewer answered questions relating to specific duties and circumstances and how to handle certain circumstances as they arise at the polls.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:30 p.m.
